
Early Voting in Winnebago County: What You Need to Know
Election Day is coming up on Tuesday, April 1, but if you're not a fan of waiting in line or squeezing in a last-minute vote between work and dinner, early voting starts Monday, March 17, Here's what you need to know to cast your vote ahead of time.
Where to Vote Early

For Rockford residents, early voting takes place at the Rockford Board of Elections Office, 301 S. Sixth Street. The hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, until March 31.
If you live outside Rockford but are still in Winnebago County, early voting is at the Winnebago County Clerk's Office, 404 Elm Street, fourth floor, Rockford. You can vote there from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday, March 17 through Friday, March 21, and from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, March 22.
Not Registered Yet? There's Still Time
Grace period registration and voting also begin Monday, March 17 at both locations. If you're not registered but want to vote, you must register and vote at the same time. That means no "I'll do it later" excuses. Bring two forms of ID, including one with your current address, and make sure you've lived there for at least 30 days. No address changes at the last second.
Election Day: The Final Chance
Polls open at 6 a.m. on Tuesday, April 1, and close at 7 p.m. If you love a good deadline rush, you can wait until then—but why risk a long line when you could vote early and enjoy the satisfaction of being ahead of the game?
