For the better part of the last decade, Magpie has been a breakfast staple in Rockford, but you only have a few days left to enjoy their dishes. Magpie is set to close permanently, this Sunday, October 13.

In 2015, Stephanie Caltagerone opened Magpie in downtown Rockford. The restaurant was a delicious success until the fall of 2016, when the building that Magpie shared a wall with went down in flames.

Magpie was forced to close after the fire and worked to reopen in a new location for years.

In 2020, Magpie officially reopened in a new location on E. State Street and for the past four years so many of us have been able to enjoy the cute location, delicious breakfast, lunch and dinner options, coffee, drinks and desserts!

From the outside things looked great, but that hasn't been the case from the inside.

The Magpie team posted on Facebook this week that this Sunday, October 13 would be their last day in business due to rent increases and a continuous legal battle that started when their neighboring building caught on fire over six years ago.

In their Facebook post they shared a photo of their menu that reads:

Much love & thanks for supporting us through the 7 /2 years of court battles, rebuilding & pandemic. Trial is complete but we won't get the judgement until October 31st.

Our final day at this location will be Oct 13th due to rent increases and outstanding legal costs. We have loved serving you fresh, tasty, local food. Words cannot express how much we will miss magpie, our employees and our customers.'
