Shocking Foodie Rankings: Only Two Illinois Cities Make the List
It's a bit of a shocker from the culinary world, with only two Illinois cities making it to the list of best foodie cities in America.
Posted by WalletHub, it appears that of the 28 different metrics they covered, including the accessibility and affordability of high-quality restaurants, food trucks, breweries, and pricing, to name a few.
Shockingly, Illinois didn't even have a city in the top 10.
We all expected Chicago to be on the list, but to see it ranked 18th? That's a bit mind-boggling.
Cities ranked above Chicago are:
- Miami
- San Francisco
- Orlando
- Portland
- Tampa
- Sacramento
- Las Vegas
- Seattle
- Denver
- San Diego
- Atlanta
- St. Louis
- Los Angeles
- Austin
- Pittsburgh
- New York
- Richmond
The only explanation for why Chicago, Los Angeles, and New York were left out of the top 10 is that each city's lack of affordability must have weighed heavily.
That said, San Francisco is ranked 173 out of 180 on the "affordability" scale.
However, San Francisco more than compensates for its affordability with its diverse, accessible, and high-quality food scene, a feat the other three cities couldn't match.

It's a head-scratcher. Travel + Leisure ranked Chicago third on its list of the Best Food Cities in the US, so these rankings are a bit perplexing.
