Garage Sale Season in Illinois: Things You Should Never Buy
Garage sale season is officially here in Illinois, and if you're anything like me, you're already mapping out your weekends revolving around every garage sale in town.
I love garage sales, thrifting, flea markets, and even a good Facebook Marketplace find. There's just something about scoring a great deal or stumbling upon something I have been looking for in the wild for months. A feeling I can't even describe!

But as much as I enjoy the thrill of the hunt, there are a few things I simply won't buy, and for good reason.
Garage Sale Season in Illinois: Things You Should Never Buy
Mattresses
I don't care how cheap it is, I'm not risking it. You never really know how people live or where it's been stored for years.
Car Seats
I might not have kids, but while a car seat might look brand new, safe, and in a condition worthy of buying, unless you know the full history behind the car seats, don't risk it.
Anything electrical you can't test
If I can't test it on the spot, I'm passing on it. If it doesn't work when I get home, I'm gonna be angry. If it starts smoking the second I plug it in, that's also a problem.
Makeup, cosmetics, personal care items
Haf used lotions, makeup brushes, anything that comes in close contact with my skin is a huge no-no. I don't know what you've done to the opened bottle or how old your brushes are!

What I do love buying? Books, accent tables, bookshelves, outdoor patio furniture, and anything that's quirky to fit the vibe of my apartment!
Garage sales are still one of the best ways to save money and find one-of-a-kind items, but you just have to shop smart. Trust your gut, and when it doubt, SKIP IT!
