What if you had taken your wedding budget and invested it instead?

When it came to planning my wedding, it was a no brainer. There was no debating on whether or not I wanted to quickly elope in Las Vegas, make a pit stop at the courthouse or have a massive; traditional wedding. I wanted a destination wedding, plain and simple. It was inexpensive and a majority of the planning was done through our travel agent.

If you're in the process of planning a wedding and still aren't sure what type of wedding you want to have, maybe this tool will help you decide.

Slate.com put together a calculator that figures out how much money you'd have now if you took your wedding budget and INVESTED it instead.

Here's how it works, you just enter the number of years you've been married and how much you spent on your wedding; the calculator then tells you how much money you'd have now if you saved it instead.

For example, I've been married for roughly 3 years and we spent about $3,000 on my wedding; had I invested it, I'd have $5,239. Dang. Money I could surely use now.
