"We will make Illinois a best practice state in terms of combating mental illness and destigmatizing mental illness", says the bill's lead sponsor.

That lead sponsor is Rockford Rep. Maurice West II wants Illinois schools to make it a priority to teach young people how to identify and respond to signs of addictions and mental illnesses.

The resolution is aimed at students from 6th grade to senior year with the hope of teaching students how to help someone developing mental health problems, according to wrex.com.
