I think all of America could use a vacation, we seem to be a pretty stressed out bunch. How stressed out are we though?

According to the folks at Movoto, Florida is the most stressed out state in the country. How did Movoto find that the people in the Sunshine State are so stressed?

They measured stress using a few different factors,

  • Percentage of population with a long commute (over 20 minutes)
  • Unemployment
  • Hours worked
  • Population density
  • Percentage of income spent on housing
  • Percentage of population without health insurance

Here are the top 10 most stressed out states in the country

1. Florida
2. Georgia
3. New Jersey
4. California
5. Nevada
6. Illinois
7. New York
8. Maryland
9. North Carolina
10. Arizona

Illinois comes in at #6 on the list, but why? The commute. Illinois ranked 5th in the entire country when it came to the drive to and from work.

Illinois is in the RED when it comes to commute stress.

According to the report, 61% of Illinois residents spend over 20 minutes a day during their commute to work.

I am sure that the number is inflated because of Chicago, but I know people who make the drive from Chicago daily.

Spending over an hour a day on a construction filled Interstate 90 would make even the most relaxed person a bit stressed out.
