
Illinois Consumers Warned as Clear Eyes Eye Drops Face Nationwide Recall
Nearly 40,000 bottles of Clear Eyes Maximum Itchy Eye Relief eye drops are being recalled nationwide because of concerns over sterility, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
The voluntary recall was initiated by Prestige Consumer Healthcare, the company behind the product, on July 29th. The FDA later classified the recall as Class II on August 14th. This means serious health consequences are considered unlikely, although temporary or medically reversible health problems could occur.
Clear Eyes Eye Drops Face Nationwide Recall
The recall involves 15-milliliter bottles with lot code 2552A and an expiration date of September 30th, 2027. The eye drops are marketed to provide relief from itchy, red and irritated eyes.

The recalled products were distributed nationwide and may have been sold at major retailers including Walmart, Target, Kroger, CVS, Walgreens and Dollar General. They were also available through online retailers, including Amazon.

According to the FDA, the recall was issued because the manufacturer could not guarantee the sterility of the affected product. That creates a potential risk of contamination by bacteria of fungi. However, the FDA said no contamination has been detected so far, and no adverse health events have been reported in connection with the recalled eye drops.

Sterility is particularly important for products used in the eyes because contamination can potentially cause infections. Consumers who have purchased the affected product should stop using it immediately and check the bottle for the lot number and expiration date.
