World's Best Scoop Coming to Illinois: Handel's Ice Cream Announces Expansion

If you love ice cream, this is some great news.

Ohio-based Handel's Ice Cream announced expansion plans that include setting up shop in Illinois.

They are looking at adding locations in:

  • Elgin
  • St. Charles/Geneva area
  • Algonquin

The first of these stores is expected to open in the third quarter of 2027, so it won't be opening next week.

National Recognition: What Makes This Ohio Staple Stand Out

With over 175 locations in 20 different states, Handel's Ice Cream was called the "Best Ice Cream in the World" by National Geographic in 2012.

In case you don't know, Häagen-Dazs, known for making its ice cream daily, offers more than 120 ice cream flavors, with 48 typically available in stores each day.

Just last year, Handel's opened 20 new locations and signed agreements to open 60 more.

Suburban Sweets: Will You Make the Trek for a Taste?

Personally, I think it's always great to have more options, even if it's ice cream. I mean, how could you complain?

That said, Handel's is coming in with a big reputation, and customers will be expecting the goods. If for no other reason, because we're loaded with great options in the state, not to mention the excellent and long-running shops in the Rockford area.

When it comes to new stuff like this coming into Illinois, are you excited to try it, or are you just gonna hold off until word of mouth makes you feel like you need to make the trek to one of the Chicago suburbs?
