Illinois Is So Broke, Murder Trial Was Delayed Because Of No Gas Money

No need for a continuance in this murder case because of the Illinois Department of Corrections doesn't have money for gas to transport the defendant to court.

I've heard many stories through the years why court dates have to be delayed but this is definitely a first.

According to pjstar.com,

"This week, an official at Western Illinois Correctional Center in Mount Sterling sent an email to the Peoria County State’s Attorney’s Office saying it couldn’t bring an inmate, who was slated to be a witness in a murder trial, because it was “having difficulties with making fuel purchases at the current time.”

Is it going to be like high school again? There's going to have to be a gas money collection before a road trip.

When will this gas money shortage be solved?

"The official then asked the state’s attorney’s office to push the trial back later in May “when the probability is more likely that we will be able to obtain fuel while on the road if needed.”

Currently, there is no information on the reason for the shortage, the gas purchasing policy, or how many people were affected.

Imagine being involved in this case. It's horrible enough to have to go through it but then forced to wait longer.
