Illinois Woman Dies While Retrieving Phone From House Fire

A woman has died after running into a burning house to retrieve her missing cell phone, according to Bartonville, Illinois police officers.

Authorities say the woman and her teenage daughter were safely evacuated from their house around 4 a.m. this morning when the woman decided to run back in to the burning building.

Police Chief Brian Fengel said that an officer attempted to save the woman but he too was overwhelmed by the smoke and is currently hospitalized.

There is a fire investigation underway, although authorities say it doesn't look suspicious.

The woman's name has yet to be identified.
