One Of Illinois’ Worst Malls Is In America’s ‘Most Dangerous’ City

If "sucks to suck" was a place, it'd be this Illinois town with high crime rate and one of the worst malls in America.

I've lived in Rockford, Illinois my entire life and I'm never surprised to hear, "Rockford is one of the most dangerous cities in the country."  It's still home to me!

Every city has its pros and cons, but what does a city have to do, or have, to land on a "Worst in America" list?

More often than not, you'll hear that crime rate, high cost of living, and high taxes make a city extremely undesirable to live in.  These typically make people say, "this place sucks!"

If the only mall in your town was also rundown, dying, and had little to no stores to shop at, would that make you dislike your city even more?

Not sure why this is a trend, but ever since we went through those traumatic Pandemic years malls have not been the same.  I used to love roaming around with friends, do back-to-school shopping with my mom, and it just was always the place to be!  Now, everyone shops online.

Honestly, there are more "Mall Walkers" than stores at this point.  From South Park Mall in Moline barely surviving, to Eastland Mall in Bloomington, to the depressing Stratford Square Mall in Bloomingdale, and even the Spring Hill Mall in West Dundee shutting down, we might not have any malls left to shop at.

Well, Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg might be the only place that's considered "thriving"... and that's pushing it.

I've talked about this mall before, but I found out it's actually located in one of America's most dangerous cities.  One in every sixty-three people are a victim of a violent crime in Danville.

Out of all 50 states, Danville, Illinois ranked #16 in the country with the worst crime.

Have you seen inside the Village Mall in Danville, though? It's actually really cool and retro looking, but there are literally no stores left.  It has so much potential, but does anyone really want to invest in a building this size to revitalize it?
