Before planning your next big move to somewhere new in Illinois, consider staying away from this one particular town.

Either way, you couldn't pay me enough to stay.  Sure, we aren't here for a long time, but I want to at least have a good time without worrying about getting held at gunpoint, always looking over my shoulder, or someone breaking into my house while I'm sleeping.

The town in Illinois that's considered the "most dangerous" has a population of roughly 14,000.  That's not a lot of people... to put it into perspective, I live in Rockford and our population is about 150,000.  That town makes up only 9% of Rockford.  Wild that they still beat us in crime.

FBI Data Says The Most Dangerous City In Illinois Has Only 14,000 People

Ever been to Mount Vernon, Illinois?  You have now.

"The chance of becoming a victim of either violent or property crime in Mount Vernon is 1 in 56. Based on FBI crime data, Mount Vernon is not one of the safest communities in America. Relative to Illinois, Mount Vernon has a crime rate that is higher than 85% of the state's cities and towns of all sizes." [neighborhoodscout]

Mount Vernon actually has a very high crime rate in burglary, property crime, and larceny.  Crime Grade's website even gave this city a D- rating.  Crime happens every 9 minutes and your home is 300% more likely to get robbed if you don't have a security system set up.
