Is This Sonic Restaurant in Illinois Closed for Good or What?
I'm not usually in this part of town often enough to be able to tell if this Sonic is closed up or still open.
So yesterday while stopping at Menard's in Rockford across the street from the CherryVale Mall, I decided to take a cruise over to Sonic.
If you haven't been to this Sonic location, I don't blame you.
There isn't a direct turn or street that makes getting there easy. In fact, I have avoided eating at this place because driving through the parking lot at Menard's in order to get to Sonic is an absolute pain in the neck.
While driving past the drive-thru restaurant a few months ago, it looked like Sonic was all closed up. There were no cars, weeds had overgrown and trash was everywhere. I was sold it was abandoned.
I mentioned it to Emily, a co-worker in the building, and she said that the place isn't actually closed. It's still open.
So what is it? Is Sonic closed or what? Turns out, we're both right. Well, kind of.
Sonic at the moment IS closed and is apparently going to reopen this summer.
According to a few signs scattered on drive-thru menus it reads:
We are closing this location for the Winter Season to remodel.
Please visit our other location in Loves Park, IL.
See you in Summer 2022!
That said, there was little evidence that remodel construction has begun on the location.
If I was a betting man, I feel like I can say with good confidence that the Sonic on Perryville in Rockford may be closed for good. Nothing official, but just a feeling I got when I was there yesterday. I hope I'm wrong.
Too bad if it does remain shuttered. I really like the Sonic Cherry and Strawberry flavored Limeades.
