One of 2016's biggest hits (so far) has one of the strangest titles. Now it's finally explained, well, kinda.

Seriously though, what does Cake By The Ocean mean? We have an idea of what the song is all about but this little tidbit on how DNCE got the title of their hit song is pretty hilarious.

According to Wikipedia:

"Lyrically, the song originated from the Swedish producers' misunderstanding of the phrase 'sex on the beach,' which they mistakenly translated as 'cake by the ocean'."

The producers in question are Swedish producers Mattman & Robin.

Here's the thing though, it's a Wikipedia entry. Meaning, it might or might not be true.

I don't speak Swedish but from the sounds of things, people that live in Sweden speak English ridiculously well so I'm having a hard time believing this to be true.

Rockford has a rather large Swedish population, maybe you or someone you know can help. Is it possible to mess up the translation of "sex on the beach" so badly that it turns into "cake by the ocean?"

I don't know, but my fingers are crossed that this story is true.
