Two Rockford residents are charged with attempted murder after police allege they fired on a vehicle with two women and a child inside.

Shots Fired Near Maple and Horsman

According to a press release from the Rockford Police Department, officers responded to reports of gunfire on Saturday, August 23, around 12:44 pm, in the area of Maple Street and North Horsman Street, just north of downtown Rockford.

When law enforcement arrived on the scene, they discovered a vehicle that had been struck multiple times by bullets.

Inside the car were two adult women and a child, none of whom were injured in the shooting incident.

Investigation Identifies Suspects

Detectives with the Rockford Police Department's Violent Crimes Unit launched an investigation and were able to quickly identify two suspects in the shooting.

34-year-old Dyvon Thompson and his girlfriend, 28-year-old Aaliyah Talford, both from Rockford. Both suspects were located and taken into custody on Tuesday, August 26, according to the press release.

Charges Filed Against Thompson and Talford

The Winnebago County State's Attorney's Office reviewed the details in the case and authorized the following charges:

  • Dyvon Thompson: Two Counts of Attempted Murder, Two Counts of Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm, and Aggravated Unlawful Possession of a Weapon.
  • Aaliyah Talford: Two Counts of Attempted Murder, Two Counts of Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm

At the time this story was published, both remain lodged in the Winnebago County Jail as the investigation continues.

Authorities say additional charges could follow as the investigation continues to develop. Rockford Police urge anyone who has information about this incident to contact them at 815-966-2900.
