Michigan Library Reminds Residents to Stop Microwaving Books
Is it rude of me to say that us humans have done some pretty DUMB stuff since COVID-19 started? I mean, I'm not lying. I've even seen a study that 1/3 of us are cleaning wrong because we're doing things like cleaning our produce with bleach.
But what people are doing with library books in Michigan is really blowing my mind.
I get nervous to microwave leftovers. The fact that people are brave enough to stick a whole library book in the microwave is insane to me.
According to WTVO, the library's regional manager said -
I don’t know if it was something that they saw on the news — that they thought maybe the heat would kill COVID-19.
However, the radio frequency tags in all of the library's materials have metal in them and they will catch on fire in the microwave
It's a good reminder to everyone checking out books from the library to NOT microwave them. I would say they're definitely being sanitized safely at the library.
