A new study shows that Illinois is the home to good pizza.

The shocking part of the study is that it's not at the top where it should be.

ILLINOIS IS FURTHER DOWN THE PIZZA CHAIN THAN EXPECTED

Actually, according to Food & Wine's recently published The Best Pizza in Every State, Illinois pizza isn't even in the top three.

While I can live with maybe, just maybe, New York taking the top spot for pizza in America, I'm hard-pressed to believe there are three other states that do pizza better than Illinois.

WHY IS ILLINOIS RANKED SO LOW FOR PIZZA IN AMERICA?

Anyway, that's what Food & Wine thinks, ranking Illinois 4th as the best state for pizza in the US. Even more strange, they say New Jersey makes the best pizza in the country, followed by Connecticut, then New York, and finally Illinois.

Food & Wine talked about Deep Dish Pizza, which people not from Illinois believe to be the only style of pizza we eat, then doubled back saying:

People eat a great deal of pizza here, and you can ask anybody who's tried—one is only able to indulge in so much deep-dish at a time. Most pizzerias in the region, in fact, sell the absolute opposite—the thinnest of the thin-crust, always square-cut, like so much other pizza throughout the Midwest.

THE REAL REASON WHY ILLINOIS IS CONSIDERED THE BEST FOR PIZZA

That's part of the reason why I think Illinois is ranked 4th overall. Outsiders think Illinois is only good for Deep Dish Pizza, while the truth is tavern-style pie is really where the quality is at.

Other midwest states that made the list are Michigan, Ohio, and Missouri.
