As people flock to the stores to buy up all the sanitation products they can, some have expressed concerns about their pets. A dog in Hong Kong tested positive for Covid-19 but the primary mode of transmission is human to human. There's been no evidence that pets can pass it along according to the SPCA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals).

Pet owners should continue to follow good hygiene guidelines when it comes to interacting with their pets though. Washing your hands before and after interacting with them. They can't pass it to us, but we can pass it to them.

Also, make sure to take your dog to a vet if you notice any change in their behaviors. Otherwise just use common sense when interacting with your pets. There's no need to surrender a pet over the fear of contracting the virus from them.

As the owner of two dogs, I can tell you that I personally have been trying to wash my hands more, especially before feeding them. Also, they are getting more baths than usual. Just keeping practicing good hygiene and don't surrender your pets to a shelter, they are family after all.
