Police in McHenry County are cracking down on drivers under the Influence of alcohol.

This Sunday,April 15th, the "No Refusal" DUI policy goes into effect.

NBC Chicago reports that "police departments in [McHenry County] are instituting a new policy to effectively ban drivers from refusing to undergo a breathalyzer test."

If you refuse to take a breathalyzer test the officers can "obtain a warrant for a blood draw for any DUI suspect that refuses" according to the McHenry County State's Attorney's office.

Currently, "officers cannot force a driver to submit to breathalyzer testing, according to the state's attorney."

However, under this new policy "if a driver refuses a breathalyzer test, a warrant will be sought that, if granted, would allow police to take the suspect to a nearby emergency room where their blood will be drawn and tested."

If a person thinks by refusing a a breathalyzer they can eventually beat a conviction of a DUI, well think again. They will find out your blood alcohol level one way or another.

They really aren't messing around.

This policy goes into effect on Sunday for the cities of "Algonquin, Cary, Harvard, Huntley, Johnsburg, Lake in the Hills, McHenry, Spring Grove and Woodstock."

I wonder how long it will be until Winnebago County institutes this policy or something similar.

Getting drunk drivers off the street and saving lives is the end goal.

I for one applaud what McHenry County is doing.
