Parts of Rockford Will Soon Stink a lot Less, says Landfill Manager

Living near the Winnebago Landfill on Rockford's Lindenwood Road has been difficult. The stench is everywhere. There's a fix on the way.

The smell from the landfill is almost inescapable. The stench can be smelled inside cars and on the clothes of those that live nearby. It would be nice to not retch anytime you're near the Winnebago Landfill.

The landfill's district manager, Lacy Ballard, says a system to neutralize the odor is in the works, according to wrex.com.

"It consists of about 4,000 linear feet of piping that's used to distribute the air vapor with the neutralizing chemistry," Ballard says.

By the end of the year, a drastic improvement of the stench-filled air, is expected.
