Really ‘High’ Illinois Legal Weed Sales ‘Hits’ 1.5 BILLION Dollars in Past Year
How high is high, we are asked...How high can Illinois get in legal pot sales? How about a 50% increase in the last fiscal year?
Is it the ridic gas prices? Is it the whole "we can go out now" and get high thing? Is it...Illinois likes the sticky green? I will say obviously it's all of the above!
CBSNews reports that the Illinois weed sales were up 50% in the last fiscal year, to a grand total of $1.5 Billion. What gives?
"The $1.5 billion in sales of adult-use cannabis in Illinois translates into significant tax revenue with a portion of every dollar spent being reinvested in communities that have suffered for decades." - Gov. JB Pritzker
So you smoke it up, JB will fix it up...hopefully? Is that how it works?
The article doesn't really give an explanation WHY it's gone up or if the sales of Pop Tarts and Doritos are going up at the same time, but that's very possible.
The money made by the state of Illinois on legal weed sales goes to a variety of state municipalities...This amount went up from 2021 by more than 75%!! With a total of from million to $146.2 million for Illinois, whoa!
I've always heard that the money is used to repair roads etc in the state of Illinois. I don't think I've seen or heard of anything specifically that the weed money has been spent on. Maybe they should do a "thanks for getting high Illinois, this smooth highway is because of you," sign.
