We've all been there. You're driving in a town you aren't familiar with and come up to a red light where you have to make a right hand turn. There's some traffic on the road, you cruise up to the light and stop. You check to make sure no traffic is coming and start to pull out and BAM lights flicker behind you.

One of two things is bound to happen next.

1. You keep on driving, contemplating if you in fact made a full stop and dreading a letter in the mail. Wondering if the pictures will prove you made a complete stop or if you're going to have to pony up some cash for a ticket. Or....

2. You slam on your breaks in a panic and the person behind you, who thought you were going, rear ends you.

Neither one of these is safe for you or the other cars on the road. As a member of the red light camera ticket club, I can tell you, fighting them is hard and time consuming, even when you were in the right. A few years ago a red light camera in Schaumburg was deemed to be inaccurate.... Think I ever saw my money back?

That's why I was thrilled to see that the could be ending the program according to the Rockford Register Star.

Like a lot of things in this state, it's been tied to corruption and a money grabbing scheme. Let's hope this moves forward and they start removing these cameras for everyone's safety.
