To The Mysterious Illinois Man Who Disturbed Me In My Sleep, Why?
You've probably seen Ring Doorbell footage of strangers knocking on peoples' front doors at all hours of the night - even if they're harmless intentions, it's a very terrifying experience.
I would know. It happened to me just a few nights ago.
It was around 11:30pm on a Wednesday, I was sleeping already and wasn't expecting any visitors.
All of a sudden, my doorbell rings and someone is banging on my front door.
I turn off all the lights in my house and crept toward the front door to peep out the blinds.
A man dressed in a black puffer coat, pants, shirt, and with his hood up, was ringing my other neighbors' doorbells really aggressively. He stepped back from our front doors and waited on the porch for someone to open up.
None of us opened our doors.
He just continued to stare at our house for another 30 seconds, or so, before walking away to the houses down the street.
I'm so glad I wasn't home alone. I would've been even more scared.
I wasn't sure if he was looking to ask someone for a ride, rob them, or what his intentions really were. That's when I decided to call the police for everybody's safety in the neighborhood.
During my call with the Dispatcher, they said I wasn't the first person to call about the guy. They already had officers in the area looking for him!
Then I started to wonder, "Why?"
Why did he think it was a good idea to knock on doors at 11:30pm on a Wednesday?
I didn't hear anything further after calling the cops, but I really hope this is a warning to others to stay aware of your surroundings and sometimes expect the unexpected.
So, if you live in Rockford and someone rings your doorbell really late at night, just make sure you're expecting visitors before you answer. Stay vigilant!
