As I've gotten older, I've noticed when winter rolls around during the school year that kids are very underdressed for the weather at their bus stops.  Why?

I talked about this with someone recently and we agreed that it seems to be a trend for high schoolers to purposely not wear winter coats or bundle up.  It's not that they can't afford them, it's that they refuse to wear them.

#1 Thing Rockford Kids Need to Stop Doing in the Winter

Please, stop wearing a tiny crop tee and leggings when it's freezing cold outside.

It can be 18 degrees, wind blowing, snow coming down like crazy, and you'll still see Rockford kids walking into school in a hoodie, pajama pants, and no coat.  No gloves.  No hat.  Just confidence.

And it's most likely that they don't like how puffy they look wearing layers!  Their parents definitely bought them some kind of coat, but teenagers are "too cool" to wear unaesthetically pleasing winter coats.  How many times have you heard your kid say, "I'll be fine."?  Way too many.

Like, nobody is forcing them to suffer, they just choose to go through it every single day.  Rockford winters aren't gentle either.  This is real Midwest cold that makes your face hurt, fingers stiff, and yes there are still kids out here raw-dogging winter like their life depended on it.

So please: WEAR A COAT.

The big puffy ones with insulation.

The one with a zipper.

The one your parents keep reminding you to put on.

Winter doesn't care who you are, it'll attack and give you hypothermia when it wants.

There aren't rules for the items Illinoisans will use to call dibs on a parking spot they shoveled and salted after a big snow system has passed over.
