The City of Rockford won't allow us to have chickens in our own yard and that has David Bardwell's mood all clucked up. He has taken his fight to Facebook.

David used to keep his chickens in his backyard in a 10 foot by 10 foot cage. Recently he was hit with a notice that said if he didn't get rid of the chickens, he'd have to start paying a fine of $75 a day. David gave his birds away but he wants his egg-delivering hens back.

From WTVO/FOX 39 Phillip Reed's coverage of this story:

14th Ward Alderman Joe Chiarelli says City Council has shown little interest in revisiting the ordinance to allow residents to have backyard chickens, but says he’s open to discussing it if the topic is brought up again in the near future.

Obvioulsy Joe and the rest of the City Council are unaware of just how delicious a 'fresh from your own backyard' egg tastes. Plus, as David Bardwell says in the video below, "I think there are more people in town that would benefit from having chickens. They're fun to sit and watch, and they build character for kids to take care of them.”

In an effort to get the council to hear his plea, David has started a Facebook page, Bring Chickens to Rockford, to garner support for the fight.
