Things continue to look up for the Forest City.

After years of negative news, the perception of Rockford nationwide is changing.

Earlier this week, Rockford's national ranking regarding dangerous cities has dropped and is no longer in the top 10. In 2014, Rockford ranked the 3rd most dangerous city in America.

Now, a new study shows Rockford is one of the best paying cities in the US for young folks. Meaning, people fresh out of college are getting paid in Rockford to work.

Rockford ranked 8th in "small metro" surveyed areas in the US paying an average of $33,898 to employees. Small metro areas are cities with populations between 100,000 and 350,000.

Even better, Rockford ranked 9th overall in the US under the "all metros" category.

One of the big reasons for the high ranking is the cost of living in Rockford. The study shows it's 12% less than the national average. Long story short, if you're looking for work, Rockford employers pay well and it's uber cheap to live here.

Also, if you're looking for negative things to say about Rockford, time might be running out for you.
