Rockford Teacher Brings Creativity, Heart, and Energy Into Every Lesson
Every once in a while, someone walks into a room and you just feel it. The energy, the passion, the way they connect with everyone around them. This is the kind of teacher who doesn't just show up to do a job—they show up to make people feel seen, capable, and inspired.

Congratulations, Ryan Pearson from Froberg Elementary in Rockford!
Bianca Sutherland wrote this beautiful letter about Mr. Pearson!
"When you think of a teacher who is truly dedicated and cares about everyone in his presence, it is Mr. Pearson. I met Mr. Pearson over a decade ago while he was working at Board and Brush. I remember he was such a great teacher as he walked around assisting others with their boards. He was fun, honest, and a very hard-worker. I do not think I ever saw the man sit down for a break!"

"Fast forward a few years and he opened his own place, Bristle and Timber. He worked so hard to make boards specific and unique for what was popular. His social media was eye catching and fun, with his musical ensembles and conversations real and unique. He would circulate the room with his enthusiasm and quick witted personality. He taught step and step and was willing to jump in to help anyone.
I remember asking him if he could come and teach my 5th graders how to make boards. He did just that and wow he did amazing! The kids LOVED him! Everyone was so engaged. He came back year after year and showed the students anyone could form a piece of artwork. Fast forward again and he spoke to me about becoming a teacher, he came and observed in our school within multiple classrooms, and we spoke for hours about what it was like to be a teacher. And, he jumped into the opportunity to go back to school and get his teaching degree."
"Ryan is in his first year of teaching first grade at Froberg Elementary. He spent countless hours preparing his room to be just so, for the kids to feel inspired, safe, and get the best academic support they could. Every inch is colorful just like his personality. Kids thrive in his room, wanting to learn, and earning his fun incentives from treats to notes home. He sets goals that are attainable but hold his students accountable. Early on with forming a quiet line while walking the hallways and more recently with spelling words and penmanship! He earned a field trip to Shed Aquarium including museum and bus fees through a grant. What an amazing opportunity for his students!
There is not a day that goes by that Ryan is not working so very hard to help his students achieve and know how important they are to not only him but our city and future. I was impressed years ago by his teaching, seeing something in him that reminded me a lot of myself, and I am so blessed that he not only entered my life but the lives of so many. Mr. Pearson is a teacher that will live in the hearts and imaginations of students forever."
As Teacher of the Week, Mr. Pearson was surprised with a cake from Nothing Bundt Cakes, money to spend at WM Day Spa Salon, and lunch courtesy of Redd Insurance Group.
