Some teachers shape a school year. Others shape a lifetime. This week’s 97ZOK Teacher of the Week is being celebrated not just for who she is in the classroom today, but for the lasting imprint she leaves on the hearts of her students long after they’ve moved on. When a former first grader — now 27 years old — still looks back and says she continues to learn from her, that says everything. To be a force in young people’s lives in a way that carries into adulthood is rare. It means you didn’t just teach reading or math... You modeled character, confidence, and care. And in Rockford, that kind of impact deserves to be recognized.

Congratulations, Perla Stefanski, from RESA Middle School in Rockford, Illinois.

Joselyn Ayala nominated Mrs. Stefanski, she writes,

I think Mrs. Stefanski deserves Teacher of the Week award because she is an amazing example to all her students. She is intelligent, charismatic, caring, and loving. Not only does she take pride in her students education, but continues to be better every year. She was my 1st grade teacher in 2004. I am 27 years old now and continue to learn from her as I grow older. She’s more like a best friend to me. She deserves all the awards but I would like to just make her day and remind her of how great she really is. It’s easy to get caught in the busy life and feel like her efforts aren’t being appreciated.
