While three Chicago suburbs made it to the top five, the rest of the list is quite the spread, with New Jersey, California, Massachusetts, and Texas all making a strong showing.

The #1 "safest and richest" suburb in America is Western Springs, according to GoBankingRates findings.

The #2 suburb is Kenilworth, located on Chicago's North Shore. Kenilworth's high ranking isn't new; according to GoBankingRates, it was recently dubbed one of America's "wealthiest suburbs."

Winnetka also took the #5 spot, while Wilmette was a bit further down the list at #17.

Ottawa Hills, located in Ohio, is the only suburb in the Midwest to make the list that isn't in Illinois.
