Scott’s Law Reminder For Illinois Drivers
I will admit I was guilty of this once. Way back in 2004 I was driving on 90 and couldn't get over and went by an officer who had somebody pulled over.
Thankfully, no one was injured as both parties were in their vehicles, but it could have been a lot worse. Needless to say, the officer ended up coming out after me and pulled me over. That's when I got a lesson in Scott's Law that I'll never forget. He didn't issue me a ticket but he did school me on a law I really didn't know existed.
On Sunday night, an officer in southern Illinois had his squad car hit marking the 27th time a trooper has been hit this year alone, according to WREX.
Since that day in 2004, I have made a conscious effort to slow down and get over for all vehicles on the shoulder. At times it can be difficult with traffic and conditions, but it's the safest thing you can do while driving. Consider this a friendly reminder to watch out for flashing lights and those pulled over onto the shoulder — this time of year especially.
As the road conditions become slick and icy, being more mindful of your surroundings on the road will ensure everyone has a safe and happy holiday season.
