Should Illinois Schools Get Rid Of Snow Days?

Thanks to advancements in technology, we could be facing the end of the beloved "snow day".

I grew up in Minnesota so the cold is nothing new to me. When I was a kid, the best part about the cold were snow days. They didn't happen often but when they did, my friends and I made the best of it. You'd go back to bed, watch "The Price Is Right", binge drink hot chocolate and spend countless hours outside. The best part, you didn't have to make up those days; they were just extra days off from school.

That's not really the case these days. While it's nice for kids to get a break from school every now and then, it's not as nice to have to make up those days. Who wants to add another ten extra days to the end of the year?

Thanks to advancements in technology, the "snow day" could possibly be eliminated. It's happening in St. Cloud, Minnesota. St. Cloud Cathedral High School is testing a new system that would allow students to do school work from home with laptops and iPads and keep snow days from piling up.

Is this something that could work in Illinois? Would you be in favor of eliminating the snow day and have your children take class from home?
