SNL Getting New Head Writers for Season 42
And the SNL changes keep rolling ahead of Season 42. Just days after losing cast favorites Taran Killam and Jay Pharoah (and Jon Rudnitsky, sorry) from the series, SNL has elected two new head writers to take the reigns before the fall season.
SplitSider broke word that six-season veterans Chris Kelly and Sarah Schneider have been elevated to co-head writers ahead of Season 42. Previously, the title was shared by Rob Klein and Bryan Tucker, who took over after Colin Jost stepped down to concentrate on Weekend Update and more general writing duties.
As the piece notes, Schneider and Kelly are behind for some of the show’s best sketches in recent history, including Andrew Garfield digital short “The Beygency,” both “(Do It On My) Twin Bed” and “Back Home Ballers,” as well as Curb Your Enthusiasm creator Larry David’s Bernie Sanders spin.
For the moment at least, it remains unclear if SNL will add to the cast to replace Killam, Pharoah and Rudnitsky, but was the series due for a bit of turnover all-around?
