Someone in Illinois is about to get some calls from a few distant relatives.

A million-dollar Powerball ticket was sold to someone in Illinois this week (not me). That soon-to-be millionaire matched all five white balls on the Wednesday night drawing coming only one red Powerball away from a $298 million pot. He/she will have to settle for a single cool mill instead (I’m sure they’ll be fine). No word yet on where Illinois’ winning ticket was sold.

The winning numbers were 5-25-38-52-67 with a Powerball of 24.

As one lucky New Yorker did match all six numbers, the jackpot will be reset to $40 million for the next drawing on Friday night. Two more million-dollar tickets were sold in Florida and Wisconsin. None of the winners played the “Power Play” option which would have meant an additional million bucks.
