Every year when we take down our live Christmas tree I get sad. I hate that the holiday season is over, and I also hate that the beautiful centerpiece of all our Christmas celebrations will soon be lying on the ground waiting to get chopped up.

Then today I saw a post from Summerfield Zoo that made me feel a whole lot better about getting rid of our Christmas tree this year...

How did I never know that animals love old Christmas trees? Knowing that my beloved tree will be providing hours of fun for the critters at Summerfield Zoo makes me feel so much better about having to let it go.

Summerfield Zoo is located at 3088 Flora Rd. in Belvidere and will have their gates open for tree drop offs today. Please double check for hidden hooks or tinsel remaining on your tree before dropping it off though, we need to keep the animals safe as well as happy!
