Congratulations Mrs. Shawna Sterling from Harlem Middle School in Loves Park, Illinois.
Ella Ezell nominated Mrs. Sterling, she writes,

There have been many of teachers in my life, there have been good, bad and some questionable moments with teachers. Mrs. Sterling teaches science, personally I have never liked science that was because I always had F’s, didn’t understand what we were learning and didn’t like the topics. I was Very confident in myself that I was not gonna like science in middle school, but Mrs. Sterling goes out of her way to teach us even when some students don’t see her efforts she is the only teacher that I have ever had that helps the kids that are struggling and even gives you opportunities to get your grade up, including giving retakes on tests and accepting late work. I actually learned a lot this year and I’m not drowning or struggling to understand the concepts. Mrs. Sterling, she’s my favorite teacher.
Shawna shares, in our chat below, the story of how her elementary school teacher inspired her to become a teacher herself. What was only supposed to be a 3-day substitute gig at Harlem Middle School turned into a whole lot more.
