The Marvel Cinematic Universe Ranked Best to Worst
Avengers: Age of Ultron opened today in Rockford. It looks like it might be pretty good, but is it the best Marvel movie?
There are 10 total movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (not counting Avengers: Age of Ultron).
I've seen them all...more than once.
Here's my rankings from best to worst:
- Iron Man (2008) - One of the best, if not best, comic book movie ever. This is the movie that really started it all for Marvel.
- Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) - Great action, hilarious and well put together. Guardians of the Galaxy was one of the best movies of 2014.
- Marvel's The Avengers (2012) - It was a dream come true for anyone who liked comic books. A movie with so many big personalities and characters that somehow managed to come together in a nice package.
- Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014) - The sequel to the original Captain America might have been the best story telling Marvel movie to date. Captain America is also my favorite comic book character, so I might be a bit bias.
- Thor (2011) - I surprised myself by how much I enjoyed Thor. I had pretty low expectations, but the end result was pretty pleasing.
- Captain America: The First Avenger (2011) - I wasn't sure how Chris Evans would handle the role of Steve Rodgers in the original Captain America movie. At first, I was sure I wouldn't be able to get past the Fantastic Four Johnny Storm character he butchered. I realized it wasn't him that was bad in Fantastic Four, it was the script. Chris Evans was born to play Cap.
- Thor: The Dark World (2013) - The second Thor movie expanded the Marvel universe and capitalized on Loki's popularity from the original flick. Good move too. The second Thor movie could have been a disaster if not for the amazing work of Tom Hiddleston.
- Iron Man 3 (2013) - I was sadly disappointed in Iron Man 3. My expectations were very high following The Avengers. I didn't care for the villain and what they did with Mandarin was weak.
- The Incredible Hulk (2008) - While Ed Norton was a better Hulk than Eric Bana, there seemed to be something missing from the movie. I didn't hate it, I just thought it could have been better. Come to find out, Hulk's story isn't all that compelling. The Avenger's handled it perfectly.
- Iron Man 2 (2010) - A slap dash effort seemingly put together with a deadline firmly attached. After the original Iron Man was so well done and cohesive, it was surprising to see something so rushed. Mickey Rourke was also dreadful as Whiplash.
What do you think? What's the best Marvel movie? The worst?
