Can any form of potatoes be reconstituted to mashed potatoes? The internet is split on the matter.

A guy on TikTok, @elis_kitchen, has gone viral after he posted a batch of mashed potatoes out of Lay's potato chips.

He dumps several small bags of Lay's into boiling water and starts stirring. Then, he strains the mixture, and takes a shot of the liquid he strained out.

After he adds the sludge consistency "potatoes" back to the pot, he adds a crapload of cheese and enough paprika to outweigh the amount of potatoes. He stirs until the mixture turns into an even more sludgy, stringy red-brown mess.

When he takes a bite, he closes his eyes and says its delicious. The internet feels like he's lying. Many commented on the condition of his kitchen as well, which looks like the last time he cleaned was when he moved in.

Brad Carter, a Michelin-star chef from Europe, even weighed in on the video.

"It looks like sludge and it's obviously not good mashing all that frying oil into your food . . . 10 out of 10 for lockdown innovation, though."
