Want To Be Happier? Clean Your House
If you need help putting a smile on your face, do some house cleaning. Recent research says it works.
The last thing I feel like doing when I get home from work is cleaning my house.
I don't mind "picking up," but I don't want to be anywhere near dusting, mopping, sweeping, or scrubbing.
According to studyfinds.org, I might want to change my attitude.
"A recent survey finds, people who enjoy cleaning the house are happier, more relaxed."
I really find that hard to believe. It makes me grumpy. My wife too.
2,000 adults were surveyed. Here's what they found.
- People who enjoy cleaning are 25% happier than those who don't.
- For every extra hour spent cleaning each week increased happiness by 53%.
- Regular cleaning has positive effects on health.
- Improved relaxation.
- Heightened focus.
- Better sleep.
- Increased productivity.
Plus, it helps out the kids who clean their room.
- They study better.
- Improved behavior.
- Exhibit empathy.
- Willing to help others.
When entering a clean room.
- Attraction increased by 44%.
- 20% improvement in critical thinking.
- 127% decrease in disgust.
Okay, this might prove that cleaning could be helpful for your health and happiness, but I don't care. I still hate it.
