WARNING Don’t Throw Out Your Stimulus Debit Card It’s Not a Scam
Here's a scam alert in the opposite direction. This may look like it is a scam but it is completely legit.
Before you even see your economic stimulus debit card, it may end up in the trash, because it looks like junk mail.
According to the IRS, around 4 million people will be receiving an Economic Impact Payment card instead of a check.
The Better Business Bureau has been fielding calls from people that think the card isn't real. To be honest, I would think the same thing. It's a prepaid debit card that comes in an unmarked envelope. It even says it's your economic stimulus money, but still people aren't buying it. Northing wrong with double-checking, we've been taken for a ride too many times before.
Here's what the IRS has to say about these cards:
Some payments may be sent on a prepaid debit card known as The Economic Impact Payment Card.
The Economic Impact Payment Card is sponsored by the Treasury Department’s Bureau of the Fiscal Service, managed by Money Network Financial, LLC and issued by Treasury’s financial agent, MetaBank®, N.A.
If you receive an Economic Impact Payment Card, it will arrive in a plain envelope from “Money Network Cardholder Services.” The Visa name will appear on the front of the Card; the back of the Card has the name of the issuing bank, MetaBank®, N.A.
Information included with the Card will explain that the card is your Economic Impact Payment Card.
