I don't think there has been a restaurant opening in Rockford with as much hype since Portillo's came to town years ago.

Since then, Lou Malnati's Pizza has opened a takeout-only place that has generated some buzz but nothing close to what's happening now with Raising Cane's.

WHAT IS RAISING CANE'S CHICKEN?

In case you didn't know, Raising Cane's is a fast-food chicken finger joint, plain and simple.

According to their website, Raising Cane's serves "only the most craveable chicken finger meals. It's our one love."

HERE'S WHY RAISING CANE'S CHICKEN IS SO POPULAR

While people love chicken fingers, I believe Raising Cane's real appeal is the Cane Sauce served on the side of each meal.

They only have a handful of things on the menu, which mainly consist of orders of chicken fingers and a chicken finger sandwich, so it has to be the sauce that does it.

Anyway, the story of Stone Eagle closing on East State Street in Rockford and the building's owners putting the place up for sale only for Raising Cane's to buy half has got everyone in town talking.

WHEN IS RAISING CANE'S OPENING IN ROCKFORD, ILLINOIS?

Mostly, people wonder when Raising Cane's will open in Rockford.

I needed to consult the Raising Cane's Public Relations Department to answer that question.

Here's what I got back:

We are expected to begin construction in the coming days on our Rockford location, and will not open doors until late 2025.

That means anytime between October 1 and December 31, which will also be a while. Sit tight, though; Raising Cane's chicken will be here soon.
