"Winnebago County Purchases Refrigerated Trailer For Morgue Backup"

That is one headline I never thought I would have to write in my entire life, but it is the world we are living in right now and it honestly scares the crap out of me.

First let's start with the facts; COVID cases are on the rise and Winnebago County, and morgues are quickly filling up.

Winnebago County Coroner Bill Hintz recently told WREX;

We started to get calls from one of the hospitals that they really needed our help because they were having more and more individuals pass away from COVID.

Yes, too many people are passing away from COVID right now, but another aspect of the problem is that COVID deaths are stored separate from other deaths, so when that designated COVID storage fills up, it's obviously a really big problem.

So what's the answer if we can't get the stop the spread of COVID in Winnebago County? A refrigerated trailer that the County just spent $30,000 on. The trailer is currently sitting in a warehouse on Green St., empty, but ready to be fired up when/if the need arises.

I'm not going to preach here, but I am going to say this; we all need to do our part to stop the spread of COVID and the loss of lives. Yes, many people who get the virus, like myself, experience mild symptoms, but too many do not and they are dying. Those are the people we need to be masking up for. They are the reason we need to make our holiday celebrations smaller this year. We need to do what's best for the team, and by the team, I mean the Stateline community. Thank you.
