Whenever I dream about the perfect vacation, it usually involves staying at a beautiful island resort filled with palm trees, crystal clear water, and flowers...then I wake up.

My budget might not allow for a tropical island vacation right now, but the good news is the perfect island vacation could be waiting for us just North of the Illinois border.

Enjoy an Island Vacation in Wisconsin This Summer

When we are in Wisconsin visiting my family's cabin each summer, we usually like to make at least one trip to Castle Rock Lake for some boating and swimming fun. There's a little sand bar island on that lake that we like to anchor and veg out at, but that little sand bar is a far cry from other Wisconsin island experiences I recently found online.

These islands might not have palm trees, but they do have everything else you need to enjoy a true island experience...

1.  Madeline Island in La Pointe, Wisconsin- Honestly, this picture from Madeline Island's Facebook was all I needed to see to start dreaming about my first vacation there...

I guess I should tell you a little more about Madeline Island so you too can understand how awesome this vacation spot is. According to Travel Wisconsin;

At 14 miles long and three miles wide, Madeline Island is the largest of the 22 islands that make up the Apostle Islands archipelago in Lake Superior. Madeline Island is the only one that’s developed, and La Pointe is the main village.

Madeline Island also offers a TON of fun things for families to do including; guided boat and sea kayak tours, a museum, sailboats, campgrounds, parks, hotels, shopping and SO much more! Get more information about Madeline Island, here.

2. Washington Island in Door County - Although are several islands located just off the Northern tip of Door County, Washington Island is the biggest and has the most things to do. There's camping and resorts, shopping, breweries, restaurants, and guided tours, but one of the coolest things to see on Washington Island is Schoolhouse Beach which offers plenty of water fun, but NO SAND!
