Rockford roads deliver no joy, if it's not a pothole that gets you, it's a speed trap that fills you with worry. Where are the worst speed traps you've seen?

Following the Speed Limit is the Law

Yes, we should be watching our speed more carefully, it is the law after all. Tickets are expensive, and auto insurance rates are too.

My memory isn't perfect but I swear a lot of roads around Rockford change the speed limits. Those changes also seem to happen randomly.

Am I making that up?

Am I the only one who thinks that?

It's also frustrating how some roads are one speed limit and then quickly change to another, and inevitably we miss that change and get pulled over.

It almost seems like it's on purpose.

At this moment, I can't tell you if the speed limit changes on Spring Brook Rd from the east side of Mulford to the west side but I've been pulled over a couple of times and it seemed as if I was crawling when I saw the police lights.

While safety I'm sure is part of the 'speed limit planning' conversation, I'm willing to bet that officials also considered ways to trap us on these roads for a quick money grab.

Riverside Blvd and Main Street

N. Main St. in Rockford is one bad speed trap.

During the few years that I lived in Rockton, N. Main/Rt 2 was my regular drive to and from work. I saw police often waiting to nab speeders in all kinds of partially hidden spots on the stretch north of Riverside/N. Main.

Going through New Milford, just south of Rockford, the speed goes from 50 mph to 30 mph in a manner of about a mile. The drop from 40 to 30 southbound is on a downhill with no advance notice.
