5 Different Ways to Enjoy Illinois’ Delicious Apple Cider Donuts

I don't care if you like pumpkin or not, but if you have taste buds, you better be obsessed with apple cider donuts.

How can you deny this DELICIOUSNESS?

I seriously think they are the best part of the fall.

Apple cider donuts are one of those foods that don't need anything extra to be amazing. But I'm the type of human who knows no food limits. So I figured I'd share my ideas for apple cider donut season.

Like I said, eating one on its own is a treat. But if you make a trip to the orchard and leave with a dozen, why not have some fun with the extras?

So, here's a list of ideas I have for apple cider donuts. Some of these ideas are inspired by things I've seen orchards do in the past, some are just straight out of the imagination.

MJ's list of ideas to enhance your apple cider donut eating experience -

1. DUNKING: A donut is amazing. A donut dunked in coffee, hot apple cider, or hot cocoa? Now that's a whole new level of amazing.
2. SANDWICHING: Take a bread knife, slice that puppy into sandwich-like halves. Then pick your favorite ice cream, put a couple of scoops in the middle, and enjoy. Want a warm sandwich? Try adding ricotta cheese & apples in the middle and put it in a panini press.
3. SUNDAE-ING: Not into the messy donut ice cream sandwich life? Put that donut in a bowl, heat it up, throw some ice cream, whipped cream, and whatever other toppings you like on top, and BAM, best sundae ever.
4. DIPPING: This one is pure imagination and I'm not actually sure it would work, but stick with me here. You cut the donut up into strips, or as close as you can get to strips. Then you mix up some homemade icing. Dip the strips in the icing and you're living your best life.
5. BAKING: Any recipe that requires bread, use an apple cider donut instead. For example, this one woman online makes apple cider donut pudding. OMG. Drooling.

Also, if you didn't know this already - you can freeze apple cider donuts. Yep, you can have your donuts in the fall, and have some ready to defrost for winter, spring, and summer.
