Next Wednesday is Halloween and kids will be going door-to-door collecting candy.

It's a fun and spooky time of year for both kids and adults.

But it also means that your social media feed is about to blow-up with the same old same old memes and news articles warning gullible parents about the satanic beginnings of the holiday. Along with evil people drugging the unsuspecting kid's treats.

*insert eye roll here*

These are 5 Halloween Myths that some believe, but can easily be debunked.

  1. Terrible People Putting Razor Blades in Candy Apples - First, off it's 2018 I doubt anyone is handing out candy apples anymore. But growing up it was such a concern for some parents that I remember hearing about hospitals hosting free X-rays scans of treat bags just to double check. This myth originated from a story that circulated New Jersey in the 1960s, I think it's safe to say we don't have to worry about this.
  2. Okay, if not Razor Blades, Then Drugs - This one is incredibly laughable! Supposedly in the 1980's, there were reports of individuals handing out stickers to kids laced with LSD. Now the story floating around the internet is THC laced candy. I'm pretty sure it's safe to say that people who have and/or use drugs are not going to waste them/or the money on passing them out to strangers for free.
  3. Black Cats Are Not Safe, Due to Satanic Sacrifice - The rumor is that this time of year the adoption rate of black cats from the animal shelter is rather high. This is because supposed witches, warlocks, and Satanists are using them for sacrifice. If they can't adopt them, then they steal them. So folks are to keep their beloved furry friends inside and safe for would be cat-nappers. How you honestly heard of anything like this happening around here? Yeah, me neither.
  4. Halloween is an American Made Holiday - Nope, we got this one from the Irish. It is said to go back to the Celtic celebration of Samhain a harvest festival and "new year's" celebration held on Nov. 1. More on that history here.
  5. Halloween is a Satanic Holiday - We can blame this one all on televangelist and host of The 700 Club, Pat Robinson. I think that speaks for itself and offers no other explanation.
