5 Rockford Things That Would Make Me Hit Facebook's 'Dislike' Button

1. Road name confusion. Why is Rockford filled with so many roads that change names. Here's just one example (I'm sure you have more). Drive west on Guilford Road, hit the Alpine Rd. intersection and go straight through and now it's Brendenwood Rd.. We won't even talk about how Brendenwood comes to a 'T' and you can turn right on that road, then turn left and now it's Brendenwood Rd. again. Huh? And to begin with, why isn't Brendewood Rd. still Guilford Rd.? If you want Guilford Rd. west of Alpine, you'll have to turn south on Alpine for bit.

2. We never get a full season, except for Winter. Spring goes by so fast, if you blink you'll miss it. Summer is filled with rain and then a few weeks of uncomfortable heat & humidity. Fall brings a couple weeks of color change, then the trees are bare. Then comes Winter. Six months of unrelenting wind, cold, snow and ice. There is an upside to those 6 months of Winter though... NO ROAD CONSTRUCTION.

3. Potholes. Rockford leads the world in screw & fastener production, I think 'holes in the road' can be added to the list.

4. The "there's nothing to do in Rockford" people. They might, in fact, be the same people who don't register for an event or buy a ticket that eventually leads to the event or concert being cancelled.

5. The stereotype that Rockford is a violent city with nothing to offer. Is violence in cities across the country a growing problem, yes. Is Rockford the only city struggling to deal with violence, NO. It would be difficult to find cities that don't have many of the same issues but the constant complaining without getting involved isn't going to help. We have big problems, that need new solutions. What brilliant, young, up-and-coming mind is going to help if we've chased them all away with our negativity.

FYI, the Facebook 'dislike' button has not arrived yet, so if you've been offered an app to download to get it, it's a scam... BEWARE!
