Springtime is here and you want to get out of the house and get a little exercise, and so does your dog. Just like your dog, we 'sniffed out' some great spots you and your dog to have a bit of fun.

The Rockford area has a ton of great places you and your dog to run, play and socialize with other dogs. Here is a list of some of the more popular locations. Please note, some do require fees and in many cases proof of rabies vaccination is required.

1. Elliot Park in Rockford: Off leash park run by the Rockford Park District features two fenced in acres at 888 S Lyford Rd. Fee $3.00 daily, season passes available. Website HERE

2.. Olson park in Rockford : Off leash park run by the Rockford Park District 6.5 wooded/ open field acres at 7901 Harlem Rd. Fee $3.00 daily, season passes available. Website HERE

3. Searls Park in Rockford : Off leash park run by the Rockford Park District. At 24 acres it is one of the largest in the Stateline. It features three fenced in areas, two of which are wooded with trails, located at 4950 Safford Rd. Fee $3.00 daily, season passes available. Website HERE

4. Hammertime Dog Park in Belvidere : Off leash park run by the Boone County Conservation District. The park is sits on 8.2 acres land at 897 Business U.S. 20. located between Shaw Rd and Olson Rd.  Fees and Park Information HERE and HERE

5. Rover Run Dog Park in Machesney Park : Off leash park run by the Harlem Township.  Two parks in one. One park is for small dogs, another area for large dogs located at 10500 Ventura Blvd at Schoonmaker Park   Fees and park Information HERE

6. Katz Dog Park in DeKalb: A FREE off leash facility located at 201 W Dresser Rd. Land area provided by the DeKalb Park District. Park information HERE.

7. Friends Forever Dog Park in Freeport is a 10-acre privately owned fenced park. It features and agility run, a special area for smaller dogs, and a large pond, if you and your dog want to swim. A one day pass is $5. Park information HERE.
