I Think I Found The Most Delicious Cornbread In Illinois—It’s Near Rockford
Yes, you're only $6 away from tasting the best cornbread in the Rockford area.
Every week, my boyfriend and I love trying a different local restaurant. Last week, we tried Ned's Diner in Belvidere! A few weeks before, we had Leilani's Asian Fusion in Aurora. This week? I was craving barbecue, so for an hour my phone's search history was "Best BBQ near me".

Here were the search results:
- Mission BBQ
- Smoke House Barbecue
- Smokey Bones
- Rick's Ribs
- Southern Smoke BBQ Pit
- Famous Dave's
And one I've heard great reviews on but have never tried: Ritchie's Smokin' BBQ in Machesney Park.
Let me tell you, I love, love, love fall-off-the-bone ribs and I couldn't believe how FAST the ribs fell off the bone at Ritchie's. Juicy, moist, and yes, the gristle hit the spot (that's just because I love gristle lol)!
We each got an order of their ribs/tips dinner. It included:
- a half slab of ribs or rib tips
- 2 traditional sides
- 1 slice of cornbread
- 1 drink
We got two mac & cheeses, coleslaw, and potato salad as our sides and none of it disappointed while we destroyed these dinners.
But let me talk about this cornbread really quick. Scroll down!
I've never tasted cornbread quite like theirs. It was chewy, crispy, the corn was perfectly distributed throughout each slice, and when you unwrap it from the tin foil, it's just gleaming up at you.
The first bite? Delicious.
Second bite? Even more delicious.
I didn't get to a third bite because I already inhaled the cornbread after the second. I wish I could've bought an entire platter because it was, as I'd put it, "scrumptious". We didn't want it to end! For only $6, you can get five cornbread slices to enjoy. Not bad.
If you know of other places with great cornbread, let me know. Please!
