WalletHub’s 2025 report placed Illinois in the fifth spot overall, right behind Virginia, Utah, Washington, and New York. That’s not just a random list, it represents the states doing the best job of supporting a profession that touches nearly every family in America.

Why Illinois Earned Its Spot

The study analyzed 24 key factors, including pay growth potential, turnover rates, school-system quality, and state spending per student. Illinois excelled in several of these areas, creating stability and opportunity that many other states struggle to match. It’s not about flashy perks, it’s about making sure the people in this role can actually thrive.
